Alpcan Efe Gencer

Alpcan Efe Gencer is from Turkey and currently based in Ankara. While he studied International Trade and Business for his bachelors, upon becoming a GTF Mentee, Alpcan shifted his academic focus to Sustainable Finance and Energy studies. Throughout his studies he had the chance to study in 4 different countries and witnessing the power of globalization across the globe; his experiences have convinced him that in order to build a more sustainable and developed future, strengthening the ties between nations and integrating the economies with each other is vital.

Shifting away from traditional finance and becoming passionate about sustainable finance, Alpcan is currently serving as a director at the Network for Sustainable Financial Markets CIC with his GTF Mentor, Martina MacPherson. At NSFM, the efforts are focused on the development of the next generation of the sustainable finance professionals. With personally seeing the benefits and the positive effects a mentoring program can have on a person, at NSFM, he wishes to bring and apply the same mentality into a different area.

As a realist and an avid supporter of environmental protection, he believes that “Sustainable and Green Finance” practices have the power to change the way we grow our civilization, possibly without harming the nature at the current irreversible rates. Alpcan is also a keen advocate of animal rights and wishes to promote it further across the world in the future.
