Q: Tell us a few things about your country, and also your life's story!
My name is Hagar Gamil, 25 years old,Programs Producer at RadioHits, a radio Station in Egypt. I am working also on my thesis that is focusing on Humanitarian Cases presented on Egyptian television shows and to what extent they are presented with a degree of professionalism. I believe in women empowerment and also on media power upon society. My country is one of the countries fighting after 2 recent revolutions to gain a better place in different fields. I believe that we are having a lot of barriers in our road ahead, but I also believe in struggling to have a better leading role in Africa and among Arab countries .
Q: What is your view of the world as it is today? And how do you define the concept of a better world?
The world in my view is now moving rapidly towards achieving its goals as societies and communities. No one is waiting for the other. Once you have the chance to change, improve, you need to use this chance in a good way. Better world in my words is a world who can have people, societies or communities who can work together, benefit from each other, exchange thoughts, plans in order to have an ideal world seeking perfection & peace .
Q: What are some of the key challenges in your society?
Women and youth empowerment, professional media working on decreasing poverty levels.
Q: As a young individual what are a few of the hurdles that you had to overcome up until today?
Raising my voice with my plans and thoughts as to how we can improve society in general. Also in my field as a person working in media, raising my voice to officials and to people who can make things happen.
Q: Why is the role of a mentor important for you?
Mrs Shahira Amin is considered a role model in our society in general and for people working in the field specifically. Her thoughts, plans for improving the society and our field (Media) are important reasons for me to be proud that I am having such mentor. She is also considered an independent person working in the field not affected by any factors that may change her views or opinions.
Q: Do you have a lesson that life has taught you and you would like to share?
Yes when I started to work in media, people told me "you are too young to work in such hard field", especially because I started working in news production, but I proved to all that I can work in this field, achieve my goals and now I have done a lot of steps that I am proud of.
Q: Name a project, a foundation or a person in your country that you think is doing great work in helping improve other people's lives!
Sir Magdy Yacoub and his foundation for helping children who are suffering from heart problems. He has a qualified team in place that works without seeking any recognition, only in order to put smiles on those children's faces.
