Professor of Media Governance & Media Industries, University of Vienna
Katharine Sarikakis is Professor of Media Governance and Media Industries at the University of Vienna. She is Senior Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Santander Chair of Excellence at the University Carlos III of Madrid and Jean Monnet Chair of European Media Governance and Integration.
Her research and teaching engagement aims to connect scientific enquiry to the world affairs and her work is solution oriented and driven by social problems.
She has studied and worked in the UK, Germany, Canada, Sweden, Spain and has consulted with international organizations and local and national authorities on matters of communication and human rights, democratization of media, gender equality and the media and access to information, heritage, culture and education.
She is currently, among other projects, working on enabling access to Higher Education for vulnerable Groups and in particular refugees. Her full biography and scientific work can be found here www.sarikakis.info.
Recently, Professor Sarikakis was appointed Chair of the Governing Committee of the ERT3, the specialized arm of the main Hellenic Public Service Broadcaster ERT, with remit the coverage of the Regions in Greece.
