Aya Koné
Having grown up in spaces that occupy the in-between, her work often confronts the intersections of culture, heritage, identity, and the environments she inhabits. She is developing her practice around the idea of indigenizing as a method of repair, using traditional techniques and synthesizing them with modern materials in direct relation to specific spaces.
Working primarily through sculpture and installation, as well as writing and language, she explores the relationship between her physical body, the places it moves through, and the ways it moves. This inquiry reveals distances and tensions that she seeks to articulate and process through her work.
At its core, her practice centers on discovery and dialogue, focusing on collectivity as a tool for repair. Aya aims to share knowledge, stimulate conversations, and foster connections that bring awareness to the spaces between and the possibilities for healing within them.
