Rui is from Portugal.

Rui Duarte is the Managing Director of Loop Future Switzerland (DACH) and Senior AI Governance Advisor, bringing together governments, companies, and researchers to shape the governance of artificial intelligence. A member of the Diplomatic Courier’s World in 2050 Brain Trust, he also serves on the Policy, Regulation & International Cooperation Executive Office of the Global Alliance for Artificial Intelligence (GAFAI), contributing to practical, shared rules for AI. 

Rui works where business, technology, and policy meet. From the UN Science Summit (24) to GAFAI, he speaks globally on AI ethics, governance and diplomacy connecting people who shape technology with those who must govern it, and turning good intentions into real-world policies. 

With 15 years of experience — seven in the public sector and eight in the private sector — Rui has served as an elected Member of Parliament and worked with intergovernmental institutions like European Commission, the Council of Europe, the United Nations (Youth Delegate Program), and intergovernmental bodies including the African Union (Pan-African Youth Union), Arab League, and Secretaría General Iberoamericana. 

Rui holds a Master’s degree in Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and is fluent in Portuguese, English, and French. He holds a Bachelor Degree in International Relations from the University of Coimbra.
